art photography

application
art is the creation of someones elses emotions and feelings into physical form that provokes emotions from the viewers of the creation.

context
raymond moore was an english art photographer who specialised in post war photos.
Andrew prokos specialises in cityscapes and landscapes.
context has a major part in art photography, artists use photo editing to make the picture more interesting to look at and to make more sureal pictures to get thier points across. The use of background is also used to effect the picture/ photo, the background or foreground can be used to affect what the photo is about.

techniques
early artists didnt have photo editing programs so had to take the picture as it is, through the camera, artists today have photo editing abilities, and can make any picture though this, limited by thier emagination. modern artists can use photoshop, lighting and other affects to change the reality of the picture to create a different image.

Fashion photography

Application
fashion photography is photographs of people and clothes to promote those clothes and people. Fashion photography is usually of good looking people in clothes that the public want, sometimes the images are photoshopped to improve the persons looks. Most of the people in the fashion shoot are standing and you can see the whole body.

context
some of the photos taken are edited to make the person look better than they are, fashion photos usually consist of exotic, exposing, elegant pictures, and more than 90% are of women. Adverts are less controversial than photo shoots because there is more freedom in photo shoots to do what you want.

techniques
the techniques used are photoshop, which lets you edit the image, usually the weight of the person.
technology influences the picture, old fashioned fashion pictures took more time and couldnt be edited due to the lack of the technology at the time.

portrait

Application
Portraits were originally for the rich and powerful to show off how rich and powerful they were, however when the camera was invented it made it easier to have your portrait taken, so it was affordable for less rich people to have thier portrait taken.

Diane Arbus was a photographer who focused on black and white portraits of exposed people, she focused on exposing people as being worse than the actually are. in 1972 Diane Arbus comitted suicide from dipression she had been suffering for some time before her suicide.

Larry Clark's took photo portraits about his own life, instead of most other portraitures who delve into other peoples lives and take pictures of them. Larry's photos were mainly about sex, drugs and violence, very controversal for a portraiture, because portraits usually consist of people with clothes on. Larry's ken park was banned for its graphic content of drugs and nudity.

context
Portraits were originally used for the rich and famous who could afford it at the time, consisting of the persons head as the main part of the picture. When cameras were invented it became easier for people to have their portraits taken,

photojournalism

These headings will help you when you are writing up you class notes. Please use your own words when working on this and do not just copy text from other sources. If you do copy text you must correctly label where you got the information from.

Application
Under application it is important to discuss the history of this type of photography and to use examples form past and present.
Where there any major dates or events that moved this style forwards?
Are there any individual people that have influenced this type of photography?

Photojournalism was arguably started by Henry Cartier-Bresson who was the "godfather of journalism". Henry managed to capture decisive moments because of his natural talent and because of the Leica camera, the decisive moment is a picture that would mean nothing if it was taken a second earlier or later. Robert capa was one of the worlds greatest war photographers, he started in 1936 during the civil war and was often on the front lines risking his life to take photos of classic moments, Robert worked for Life magazine and was on the front lines on D-day, he was under pressure to get the pictures back with the deadline for Life magazine drawing near, however 3 and a half of his roles of pictures got destroyed. Tony Vaccaro was a soldier and a photographer so was on the front lines while he was taking his pictures, the camera he got issued with was too ineffective to take any good pictures with.

Context
Under the context section list and describe each of the contexts that we the audience consume this style of image. Context is the way the photographs are displayed for example fashion photographs are displayed in magazines as well as billboards. It is important when discussing this section that you mention important changes for each context through history.

Techniques
Are there any techniques utilised to create images of this type? For example the way the picture is Taken, Processed, Displayed or manufactured?
How has the change in technology through history altered or changed the way that photographs of this style are produced?

the leica camera helped to develope to way people looked at photojournalism, it was portable and was one of the first cameras to take pictures instantly, the decisive moment was only able to happen because of the leica camera.
